"I've always had an interest in things alternative and complementary, together with a curiousity about Eastern religions and philosophies such as Buddhism. I was inspired to set up an online shop selling holistically inclined products because I found it difficult to shop for such goods or search the internet for intelligent articles without having to sift through quite a lot of what I call the more "wishful" elements of the New Age market.

Not for me were some of the more hopeful claims that adorn many "holistic" shops, events and websites. What I wanted was an informed and down to earth provider of proven "holistic" products, such as aromatherapy, relaxation and meditation aids.

In addition, as a consumer who wasn't really aware of all the new developments and ideas in the Holistic world, I also wanted to browse responsible and inspiring information on the "Holistic" approach - the idea of "wellbeing" as an inter-dependance of bodily health, mental relaxation and balanced spirituality. From this point, the idea of an online Holistic shop was a natural progression."

"Margaret and I discovered we had a shared interest in Holistic and alternative therapies, and wanted to find out more. In addition we wanted an opportunity to create our own business, and to put our ethical convictions into practise if possible. The Holistic Shop was founded during 2003 after protracted late night talks together. To date The Holistic Shop has proved the perfect opportunity for us to combine our interests with our wish to branch out on our own".
